Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics were not only in full swing in PyeongChang, South Korea,
but also here at Rainbow Connection.
Tacky and the Winter Games, was a helpful guide for our Winter Games. Tacky and his friends of Team Nice Icy Land, competed in the same events we did.

We started out decorating flags with the Olympic Colors- red, blue, green, yellow and black.

When they dried, we had our Opening Ceremonies. We played Olympic Music and marched around the room with our flags held high. We were proud to represent Rainbow Connection.

We did some warm-up exercises to get us ready for our big competitions.

We were in luck! It snowed, just like in our book, Ten on the Sled.

We were able to have our bobsledding competition outside (instead of indoors on the stairs:). We had team, pairs and individual competitions.

This was a favorite competition for many of us, but certainly not all of us!
Before we headed to the rink for hockey competition, we took an artistic break and used the Olympic rings for inspiration to create a collage. Cups dipped in paint the colors of the rings were printed on paper for some awesome creations.

Off to the rink to first cheer on the dinosaurs in Dino Hockey

We loved this book and we were all cheering for the underdogs- the Veggiesaurs. They won!
And now we were ready to try our hand at hockey. We had some miniature ice rinks indoors which we tried first. We put our fine motor skills to the test as we tried to get the "puck" to the other side of the rink in the goal. We were quite proficient.

Next we went outside to compete, using pool noodles for hockey sticks and balls for pucks. Our goals were rings.

Hockey was proclaimed a favorite for many of us.
Skiing was next. We read Squirrels on Skis

to get us psyched for competition and then we headed for the slopes with our skis.

Skiing was probably the hardest of all of our competitions due to equipment failure. Next Olympics, we'll have to invest in better skis.
We had fun though, and that's what matters most!
Dream Big, Little Pig

had us dreaming of all of the things that we could do. It was a lesson in perseverance- never giving up no matter how hard the task. Most of us talked about what we were going to do or be when we grow up. We all were willing to give ice skating a try. Some of us tried twirling, going backwards and even jumping. Nobody gave up!

Needing another artistic outlet after all the competition, we used little people frozen in paint to ice skate and dance on our paper.

The bears in Ready, Set, Go!
had their own Olympics just like we did and the competitors received their ribbons for all their efforts.
It was time for our closing ceremonies. We each had a chance to stand on the podium and talk about our favorite events and then we received a gold medal for all of our hard work and perseverance.

 We are all winners!
