Frosty Fun

This week brought us plenty of frosty fun both indoors and out.

After reading The Biggest, Best Snowman,
we went outside to play in the snow and build our own snowman.

Colorado snow is so dry, we had to pack the snow rather than roll it. We got some rolling practice in, building snow friends with white, sparkly play dough. It looked like real snow!

Our favorite song of the week was "Frosty the Snowman". The book by the same name, has always been a favorite.

In honor of Frosty, we tried on " Frosty hats" as we sang.

We dramatized being snow friends- we rolled 3 times to make 3 snowballs- big, medium and small for the head. We stood frozen until the magic hat was places on our heads. We began to dance around!

It was fun to read and imagine what snowmen do at night as we read Snowmen at Night.

Our snowman certainly changed over night. We can only imagine what he'd done and where he'd gone. Some of us were convinced he went to our "jungle" to play with the other snow friends in the neighborhood. He had begun to melt and was looking pretty disheveled.
We made snow friends with frozen, sparkly white slime. As it warmed up, they began to melt, just as a real snowman does!

After reading The Wild Toboggan Ride,
we went outside to enjoy the beautiful snow! We bundled up in snowsuits, boots, gloves and hats and headed out to sled. Some of our "rides" were as wild as in the book!

Inspired by the book, Snowballs,

we created snow friends using loose parts- snow cookies, corks, wooden spools, wheels, jewels, buttons and more.
It was fun to make and remake them. We took pictures when we had them just like we wanted.

We found lots of ways to create snowmen, without any snow!
