The Christmas Boot

A definite new favorite, The Christmas Boot was the pick today in honor of St. Nicholas Day- a day many European countries observe during the advent season. Little treats are left in children's shoes, while they sleep, by the "bearer of gifts"- St. Nicholas.

We played a matching card game where we matched little elf shoes. Some of them were pretty similar- we had to use major observation skills to find the differences and match those that were the same. The winner was the player who ended up with Santa's boot- the one with no match. Hannah Greyweather, the main character in our book, found only one of Santa's boots in the snow. Of course it was magical...just like Santa!
In hopes that St. Nicholas would visit us on this day, we placed our shoes by our nap mats before we went to sleep.
When we woke, there were little puppies in our shoes- just like the puppy Santa left in Hannah's boots so that she would have someone to talk to and would no longer be lonely.
