Celebrating the Earth

We’ve got the whole world in our hands,
We’ve got the whole world in our hands,
We’ve got the whole world in our hands,
We’ve got the whole world in our hands.
We have to help take care of our beautiful earth and all of the creatures that live here.

Those on land...
in deserts...
and oceans...
Panda Bear, Panda Bear by Eric Carle
presents animals that are in danger of becoming extinct.
We colored pictures of our favorite animals and told what we do to help take care of them.
Fingerpaints were used to create our world. We fingerpainted blue for the water and stamped green handprints for the land.
Riding a bicycle or walking when possible helps take care of our world. We pretended to ride a bicycle as we sang:
I have a little bicycle,
I ride it to and fro
And when I see that big green light,
I know it’s time to go.
I have a little bicycle,
I bought it at the shop
And when I see that big red light
I know it’s time to stop!
We also talked about taking public transportation and sang "The Wheels on the Bus" and acted out several verses.
We read Grover's 10 Terrific Ways to Help Our Wonderful World.
We played a recyclable game. We had to decide whether we should repair, reuse or recycle a number of items in a basket.
and then we went on a litter walk to clean up the neighborhood and make the world a more beautiful place.
The book, Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, told of the "lupine lady" who traveled the world, lived in a house by the sea, and planted lupine seeds to make the world more beautiful.
We can plant a flower to make our world an even more beautiful place!
