Love and Friendship February 13-17

"What makes a good friend?" was the topic of the week. We talked about how to be a good friend- making friends feel better when they're sad or mad, making friends feel welcome and meeting new friends.

My Friend Bear, Where’s My Teddy? and It’s the Bear! by Jez Alborough, gave us a chance to talk about friendship and how we should treat our friends.
The Robobots by Matt Novak, helped us to talk about differences and how we can have friends who aren't just like us. Everybody is different and that's okay!

We had heart shapes galore and lots of stickers. It was a favorite of the week and we had fun working with our friends.
It was fun experimenting with heart shaped crayons. We used them flat and turned them on the side. We had fun stacking them, sorting them and making designs with them, as well.

We spent quite a bit of time on a "love and friendship" obstacle course. We went round and round with our friends. It not only promoted friendship but also gave us lots of exercise for our hearts.
A great friendship game is "Ring Around the Rosy" because we hold hands with our friends.
We added new verses like:
Tiptoe around the rosy...
Kick around the rosy...
Jump around the rosy...
Backwards around the rosy...
Stomp around the rosy...
We tried "crawl around the rosy" and it got pretty crazy!

Singing “Skidamarink” always brings a smile to my face! It was a favorite naptime song:
Skidamarink a dink a dink
Skidamarink a doo
I love you.
Skidamarink a dink a dink
Skindamarink a doo
I love you.
I love you in the morning
And in the afternoon
I love you in the evening
Underneath the moon
Skidamarink a dink a dink
Skidamarink a doo
I love you!

We did exercises to keep our hearts healthy. We did jumping jacks, toe touches and windmills. Then we cooled down with some deep breathing and neck rolls.
When we were finished, we took turns using a stethoscope to listen to our healthy hearts!
On Valentine's Day, we celebrated by delivering Valentines to our friends.
Heart-shaped cookies were fun to decorate with pink frosting and sprinkles. Some of us ate while we decorated, adding more frosting and sprinkles after a bite. Others of us waited to “dig into” the finished product.
We painted with watercolors on "friend" shapes.
Our sensory bin was filled with hearts of all colors and kinds. We had fun sorting them and collecting them in cups and bowls.
Lots of pictures of friendship were captured this week...
