"Clean" snow was brought inside to play with in a sensory bin. We used scoops, spoons and cups to dish it up.
Circle shapes and lots of big, colorful buttons provided us with some creative snow buddy building...
After reading Snowballs by Lois Ehlert,
we designed snow buddies like in the book, using natural things like seeds, popcorn, raisins, etc.
We used a snow cone machine to make snow! Then we poured juice over the snow to make a snowcone.
Of course, our favorite song of the week was "Frosty the Snowman". The book by the same name, written by Jack Rollins became our favorite as well.
After reading The Biggest, Best Snowman Ever, by Margery Cuyler,we built our own snowman. It wasn't so big, but it was the best. We added a carrot nose, sticks for arms, rocks for eyes, a pine tree branch for a mouth, a scarf, some gloves and a hat. It was perfect! When the wind blew and the sun came out, it didn't take long for our snowman to melt away.
We used snow paint made from Ivory Snow Flakes to create a "snowstorm" on paper.
Sledding was probably our favorite activity of the week. Mother Nature certainly provided us with plenty of snow.
To add to our sledding adventure, we sang, "Three Little Snowmen Sliding on a Sled" to the tune of "Three Little Monkeys":
Three little snowmen sliding on a sled,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called Frosty and Frosty said,
No more snowmen sliding on a sled."
Two little... One little...
White playdough was easy to roll into balls to create snow buddies and a variety of other things...
Snowball cookies were fun to make. We mixed up the dough, rolled it into snowballs and after they baked, we rolled them in "snow" (powdered sugar). YUM!
We had a frosty fun time playing in the snow!
