All About Me September 6-9

This week was all about me...

We read The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.
There were different colors of footprints on the floor. "Left foot, right foot, feet, feet, feet..." We stepped on them and jumped on them as we called out the colors..."Oh, how many feet we meet!"
Our sensory tub was filled with bubble bath, soap and shampoo for our dolls here at Rainbow Connection. We spent the week washing body parts.
They were squeaky clean when we were done!
Birthday candles were added to our playdough play. We made birthday cakes to celebrate our ages.
One of our all time favorite things to do is to paint our hands. We painted them both and printed them on paper as we counted our fingers.
Next, we painted our feet (not something we do as often as hands) and printed them both on paper as we counted our toes. It tickled! We recited the nursery rhyme, "This little piggy went to market...".
We read the book, The Shape of Me and Other Stuff by Dr. Seuss.
We each laid down on a piece of paper so that our body shapes could be traced.

Next, we used crayons to decorate them. Some of us even added facial features and hair.
In the words of Dr. Seuss-
"Of all the shapes we MIGHT have been... I say, 'HOORAY for the shapes we're in!'"
Our fingerprints make us totally unique. We pressed our fingertips on stamp pads and pressed them on paper and then used magnifying glasses to examine them.
We sang the song, "Where is Thumbkin?"
and then we used our thumbs to make Thumbprint Cookies.
YUM!
A graph on the wall shows how tall we each are. We compared our heights using the words like shortest, tallest, smallest and biggest.
37 inches tall!
37 inches tall!

34 inches tall!
31 inches tall!
351/2 inches tall!
WOW! We are all getting so big!

We read the book, I Like Me by Nancy Carlson.

Then we looked in a mirror to see our special characteristics- the color of our eyes, our hair, the shape of our nose and mouth. We opened our mouths and counted our teeth. We listened to the song, "I Am Special" by Thomas Moore.

Practice makes perfect. We brushed pretend teeth
and read The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss.

Pictures of each us were used to play a matching game.

We read, We are All Alike, We are All Different, written by kindergartners from Cheltenham Elementary School. It celebrates people's differences.
Little foam people of different colors and shapes were sorted into cups of the same color. We looked for people that looked like us and people that looked different- short hair, long hair, boy, girl, etc.
Our sensory table was filled with letters. We sifted through them to find letters that have meaning to us- first letters of our names, our moms and dads, our friends, etc. We also like looking for our "numbers"- how old we each are.
We played a game called, "Friend to Friend". We worked together as friends. When a particular body part was called out, like- "Nose to nose!", we had to touch our nose with our friend's nose. Or, "Toes to toes!". We thought it was pretty silly and we giggled throughout the game, especially when we got to "Bottom to bottom!"
We sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes".
We touched the parts of our body as we sang.

"I Spy" is one of our very favorite games to play. We love to take out the books and "spy" things and challenge others to find them. This week, we played, "I Spy Mr. Body". We had a body shape filled with lots of different body parts. We took turns "spying" body parts of all kinds.
We did the "Hokey Pokey"!

That's what it's all about!
