The flag of Scotland is a design of blue triangles and white stripes. We put these shapes together in a collage.
We saw sheep everywhere we went. We used some of their wool to create designs on burlap.
Golfing is a popular sport in the highlands. We practiced with a lot of tee shots.
Golf balls were dipped in paint and rolled around in a pan to make some medleys of bright colors.
Boys and girls in Scotland are called "lassies and laddies". We played a game while singing, "Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?" One of us was the leader and the rest of us had to copy the lassie or laddie who was leading us.
Our favorite book was The Ghosts' Trip to Loch Ness by Jacques Duquennoy. The ghosts went on a search for the infamous Loch Ness Monster of Loch Ness Lake in Scotland. They stayed in a nearby castle with their bagpipe playing friend, McGhost (who sported a tartan plaid hat) and his Scottish terrier and Westie.
We went on a search for the Loch Ness monster. We took turns hiding the "green monster" and choosing someone to find it.
"Nessie" shapes gave us a chance to use our best guess as to what the loch ness monster looks like.
We painted them with water color paints.
Scones are a favorite treat of the Scottish. We mixed up dough and patted it out to create some yummy scones which we had with butter and jelly for snacks and lunch.
Miniature Golf was a highlight of the week and helped us practice our golfing skills.
The week went by in a hurry and we had to head back to America, but we'll always remember our trip to Scotland by reading and rereading our favorite books.
