Harvest Celebration

In honor of Thanksgiving, we celebrated the harvest by using vegetables in our dramatic play.
Perfect books for harvest time, we enjoy every year, The Enormous Potato by Aubrey Davis and
Dusan Petricic.

and The Enormous Carrot by Vladimir Vagin
and Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens.
We dramatized the story of "Stone Soup" while we listened to this tale about sharing and friendship- a perfect tale for Thanksgiving. This gave us practice for making our own "stone soup".
Our goal was "stone soup" or a better name would perhaps be "friendship soup". We all worked together to cut up all kinds of vegetables and then put them in a pot for some yummy soup for our "Harvest Celebration".
YUM!
by Harry and Wende Devlin
and used the recipe in the book to make cranberry muffins using the secret ingredient (you'll have to read it to find out what it is:)). We had them with our "friendship soup" for lunch.
YUM! YUM!
We rounded up the turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving. We painted our hand and thumb brown and then picked colors for our fingers- the turkey’s feathers! We printed them on our "friendship quilts" just like the quilt they sat on and celebrated friendship in our book,
Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson.
We talked about all of the things that we are thankful for, and wrote them on the squares of our quilts. We covered the "quilt" with contact paper so that we could use them for Thanksgiving place mats.
Happy Thanksgiving!
