Alphabet Soup

We spent the week immersed in the alphabet...kind of like being in alphabet soup!

Tongue depressors with velcro attached to the ends were used to make shapes and letters.
We always love looking in the alphabet box for things that start with each letter.
A metal cookie sheet makes a great place to play with our magnetic letters...
An ABC trail on the floor through our playroom, was fun to follow, jumping and hopping on our special letters...
Chica Chica Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. is always a fun book to read.
We read it many times and then we made our own "Chica Chica Boom Boom" coconut trees, using our hands as the leaves. When they were dry, we added abc stickers and stamps. Oh, and coconuts too!

We loved singing the ABC song. We also sang Cookie Monster’s "C is for Cookie", but we added our own verses.
C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me.
C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me,
C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me,
Cookie, Cookie, Cookie starts with C.

Using tempera paint and small paintbrushes, we painted on "our letters"- the first letter of our names.
A sensory tub was filled with ABC's. We searched for all of our special letters, scooped them, stirred them, scooped them, poured them and more! It WAS like alphabet soup!
We had some ABC cookie cutters to add to our playdough fun...
We went on an ABC scavenger hunt after reading Alphabet Mystery and Shiver Me Letters, a Pirate ABC.
They are new books here, and sure to be favorites! Just like in the books, we had to search around for things that start with each letter in the alphabet.
Scrabble crackers were fun to eat- we found our special letters and then ate them up!
We found that ABCs are everywhere, even in some foods we eat!
